Featuring a geometric band of lavender and baby blue across its middle against a natural sisal base, our HUDUMA baskets are handwoven in three different sizes, so there’s one for almost every home storage conundrum. Use a small woven basket for toiletries, jewellery and watches, remote controls, mobile devices and cables, while the medium and large woven baskets make great floor storage for everything from laundry and loo rolls to rugs and blankets, slippers, firewood and children’s toys. These purple striped baskets look great on shelves and also make excellent woven planters for all types of houseplants – and we can’t think of a more perfect new home gift.

The Basket Room is proud to partner with weaving groups in several rural corners of Africa, and the women in this particular group are simply brilliant at producing an array of gorgeous colours through meticulous hand dyeing. These women have woven from a young age: the age-old craft of basket weaving is passed along the female line and is being kept alive for future generations thanks to your purchases. Basket weaving within a group empowers women to support their families with a flexible income in the dry seasons, where subsistence farming becomes unsustainable.

FAIR TRADE & HANDMADE IN KENYA

About the designer…

The Basket Room creates beautiful collections of handwoven, decorative storage baskets for the home. Woven with stunning colours & unique patterns, we work with small craft collectives in Africa to bring you ethical, stylish accessories with a story. They bring together all the values of fair trade, partnering with cooperatives in Africa that helps women to support their families more comfortably, since subsistence farming alone often fails to meet the family’s needs, particularly in the dry season. By purchasing one of these baskets you actively support these weavers’ livelihoods, and a commitment to empowering women in developing countries.
