The Little People: Big Dreams books have long been a favourite in our family. As October is Black History Month, it seems the perfect time to shine a light on the lives of some incredibly inspirational individuals, who have had a huge impact on history, politics, literature, sport and the arts. Encouraging children to follow their dreams, these books also help to empower children to believe, that in the words of Ella Fitzgerald, “It isn’t where you came from; it’s where you’re going that counts”.

The first Black History Month in the UK was launched in the 1980’s, where the aim was for the community to educate themselves, and understand the impact people of African and Caribbean descent have had on our country, both to our culture and way of life.
