Diane has been part of The Store Collective family for some time, and we are thrilled to have her in the partner spotlight.
We spent some time with Diane to learn about her inspiration, loves, and creations.
When and how did you start your business?
I have always been creative and love making things. After having children, I left my career as a buyer. I sold handmade wedding invites for a while before returning to my first love - fabric!
What inspired you to start your business?
Once I knew I wanted to work with fabric again, I started researching options. I saw a gap in the market for pretty and unique make-up bags and pouches. I find fabric so inspiring, thinking of all the different ways you can use it. I always like to buy something a little bit different, so I love being able to do that for my customers. Running my own business means being flexible around my family life.
Why do you make the products that you make?
Having seen a gap in the market, I went on to see how to make it my own. Although I had sewn from a young age, bag-making was a new skill. I taught myself everything.
I design the pattern, cut it all out (did you know that there are nine pieces to cut in a small make-up bag alone?) and then sew it all together.
I buy small amounts of fabric, so my stock is constantly changing. I love to use materials that are colourful and unique. I believe that the linings are just as important as the outside. My main aim is to make my customers smile when they use my products! I also love a bit of sparkle - life is better with sparkle.
What advice would you give to someone hoping to start their own business?
Do your research, find your market and try. If you don't try, you'll never know!
Which motivational quote gets you through business-related challenges?
'But First Coffee', is my mantra for life, so we'll go with that…! Or 'if you don't try, you'll never know.'
